As I reflect on the past 364 days I am truly amazed to see how many changes occurred and experiences I gained in 1 short year. I honestly believe that 22 is the age that people experience some of the biggest life milestones and blossom with newfound independence. Below are 22 of my accomplishments, failures, and adventures I've had as a 22 year old. I truly hope you get to do some if not all of these things or can relate to the same life lessons from your younger days.
1. I lived with 3 of my close friends and didn't kill them in their sleep.
2. I went out on week nights, did some awkward dancing, and stayed until bar closing.
3. I sang A LOT of REALLY BAD karaoke.
4. I played Taylor Swift's song "22" about a million times.
5. I went on a Caribbean getaway with a group of my closest friends.
6. I accepted my first full-time job.
7. I quit my first full-time job and found a new one that better suit my talents.
8. I went on a diet, lost 7 lbs., and then quit the diet because ice cream kept getting in the way.
9. I became a dog mom.
10. I bought my own brand new car.
11. I questioned the status quo and stood up for something I believed in.
12. I accomplished a goal I had wanted since I was 10 (If you're curious, I finished my time on my livestock judging team better than when I started and got to judge a couple pig shows).
13. I made an effort to spend more time with my family.
14. I had a quarter-life crisis and splurged on a somewhat ambitious investment strategy (I started a cattle herd)
15. I graduated college.
16. I made a conscious effort to get out of my comfort zone and create as many new connections as I possibly could.
17. I strived to stay humble when given praise.
18. I tried to make a stronger effort to lend support to those who needed it.
19. I drank a little too much a couple nights and learned hard lessons the next morning.
20. I traveled to 13 different states.
21. I learned the difference between the DATING type of boys and MARRIAGE type of men.
22. I found out more about myself and what I truly love, hate, and want in life.
22 was kind of scary at the beginning, but I would now admit that it was one of the best years of my life. (Since I'm not ready to get any older, I have decided that from now-on I will NOT be having a birthday but rather have anniversaries of my 21st birthday.) Good-luck to all those either turning 22 or experiencing it now and remember you only get to be 22 for 365 days so make the most of it!
