This holiday season I wanted to do more than just give presents. I wanted to give kindness. With a world we live in now, I think we all need a little kindness. Therefore, I challenged myself to do 25 Acts of Kindness between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Some acts were bigger than others, and honestly I doubt if I made a lick of difference in anyone’s life. However, what’s most important is that you try. My favorite quote is “It doesn’t cost a cent to be nice to someone” and I think that’s a motto more people need to live by. Here is the list of the 25 Acts of Kindness I completed in roughly 25 days so that maybe you can take some of these ideas and try to be kind as wel.
1. Send Christmas Cards to Adopt a Soldier
2. Hide $1 bills around the Dollar Store
3. Sponsor a Wishing Tree Family for Christmas
4. Support Make a Wish Foundation
5. Send encouragement cards to friends
6. Donate books to a local teacher
7. Make Christmas goody bags for a Sunday School Class
8. Donate old clothes to Salvation Army
9. Buy Starbucks for the car behind you in the drive thru
10. Bring someone coffee at work
11. Make Dead Week survival kits for college students
12. Send Christmas cards to family and friends
13. Put quarters in the parking meter for someone else
14. Participate in a local charity’s fundraiser
15. Donate food to your local Backpack Buddies
16. Buy a toy for Toys for Tots while you’re shopping
17. Leave a treat for your mailman
18. Give your leftover change to the Red Kettle
19. Leave quarters in a gumball machine
20. Leave money in a vending machine
21. Send your office people a Thank-You bouquet
22. Buy a ham for a mentor
23. Send some Mid-Week motivation to your friends
24. Have afternoon tea with your Grandma
25. Encourage others to be kind
So yes, my final act is to challenge you all to be kind to. It doesn’t have to be any of mine or anything elaborate. Something as simple as opening a door or complimenting a stranger is being kind. It won’t make you a hero by any means but it will make you kind and the world needs more kind people right now.
