Dear American Farmer, Rancher, and Producer,
Today is National Ag Day. It is a day were we celebrate the great industry that has the sole job of keeping the world fed and clothed. As the global population is reaching 9 billion within the next 50 years, we know that it is professionals like yourselves that keep the world going. Without your hard work and dedication, more people would be hungry and naked. We know that you don't get nearly the credit you deserve. To you, every day is National Ag Day. It's your livelihood and how you support your family. It's time you get the thanks you deserve.
Thank-you for producing safe, wholesome food every single day. Thank-you for waking up in the middle of the night to see if that heifer has had problems calving. Thank-you for getting out of bed early on Christmas to feed your finishing pigs. Thank-you for refusing to take sick days and snow days in order to check on your laying hen barn. Thank-you for spending hours with your ewe as she gives birth to twins. Thank-you for getting up early in the morning and late at night to keep the cows on their milking schedule. You sacrifice holidays, birthdays, vacations, anniversaries, and so much more to care for your animals because you know they cannot care for themselves. You ensure that what you feed your animals does not negatively affect what goes onto our plates. You know how to properly medicate and treat your animals when they are hurt or sick to prevent them from suffering. To all the livestock producers, thank-you for providing us with a sufficient and delicious protein source.
We must also thank the fiber and grain farmers. Thank-you for sacrificing dinners with your family in order to get the corn in before it rains. Thank-you for selling your wheat even when grain prices are less than gratifying. Thank-you for continuing to not give up even after a drought, flood, tornado, hail storm, strong wind, or any other type of natural disaster destroys your year's crop. Thank-you for pushing towards bigger and better yields and investing in technologies that can take you there. You feed not only people, but livestock as well. Thank-you to the fiber producers who know that American's would be cold and naked without them. Many people do not realize that crop farming is more than just sitting in a tractor and planting rows. It takes patience and hard work, and we are forever grateful that you possess those skills.
The farming life is not glamorous by any means and definitely not easy. Only 1% of the American population has what it takes to feed and clothe the other 99%. The sacrifices and time farmers, ranchers, and producers spend on their professions goes far beyond the 40 hour work week. The agriculture industry feeds us at least 3 times a day and keeps us covered 24 hours of the day. The hard working men and women of this industry get one day a year of recognition, while supporting the human population 365 days a year. It's time we say thank-you. Thank-you for keeping us moving forward.
Sincerely,
The American Consumers.
