Since I was 10 I have been the BIGGEST die hard Kenny Chesney fan. While most girls had posters of Nick Jonas or Justin Bieber hanging up in their locker or on their bedroom wall, I had Kenny Chesney. Even though he is the same age as my father (and has about the same amount of hair), I still refer to him as my "Future Husband". His songs are very different from the traditional country stereotype. Instead of singing about gravel roads, rodeos, nasty ex-wives, or beer, he sings about Friday Night Lights, secluded islands, high school sweethearts, and tequila. I consider him being "Small Town" country verses most artists who focus on the "Hick" side of country. Naturally, as a dedicated fan I own almost every CD of his. While playing his records on repeat every single time I drive somewhere, I have been able to hear some songs most people who never deviate from the radio don't ever get to listen to. Honestly, I think some of his songs that have never hit the radio waves are some of his better songs. So in honor of his concert being this week and being the crazy obsesses fan that I am, here are my favorite Kenny Chesney Songs that never hit the radio and explanations on why I like them.
Save it For a Rainy Day- This was off of Kenny's most recent album: The Big Revival. This is a very upbeat song that is my go to song when I am stressed out. It helps me to remember to not stress the little things and just keep being positive.
The Big Revival- The title track of Kenny's most recent album and his current tour. It is a religious song with a really different take. It pretty much is about a preacher who tests his followers' devotion to God by seeing if they will be willing to be bit by a copperhead snake. However, it's got a catchy beat and definitely one I jam out to quite often.
The Road and the Radio- This was the title song for Kenny's Road and the Radio album. A very calming song that helps me relax and kind of meditate in a way.
In a Small Town- Another great hit from the Road and the Radio album. It talks about those people who never leave their hometowns and waste their lives away. But it also talks about being tempted to leave, doing so, but realizing home is where the heart is and coming back.
Freedom- Again a song from the Road the Radio album (This is probably my favorite album of his). While most singers sing about their American pride by shoving boots up people's asses or with other "in your face" methods, this still shows American Pride but in a much calmer way. It talks about the little freedoms we take for granted and how we should still be thankful for those who sacrificed for them.
Somebody Take me Home- A very good post break-up song. We have all been there. We have just been brokenhearted and can't decide if we need to stay in a cry our pain away, or go get white girl wasted. This song talks about putting your tears aside and just going out and getting over it. Also found on the infamous Road and the Radio album.
Some People Change- Montgomery Gentry also did a cover for this song, and it was very popular on the radio. Personally, I like the Kenny version better. If you've never heard it, it's about people who don't let their pasts determine their future. You can find this gem on the When the Sun Goes Down album.
When I Think About Leaving- This is just another mushy love song, but I still like it. It's also found on the When the Sun Goes Down album. It's about this guy who gives the pros and cons of leaving from his personal experience and from experiences he's seen from the people around him. Ultimately, the end of the song talks about how he could never ever leave his wife. #HusbandGoals
Never Gonna Feel Like that Again- What I love most about Kenny is his songs that take you back to growing up in that small town high school. This song always reminds me of high school and how some things you can only do once so don't take them for granted. This is found on the No Shoes No Shirt No Problems album.
Dreams- Every single female can relate to this song. Sometimes we don't want to be pampered or treated like a queen. Sometimes we just don't want to be alone. Another post break-up go to song for me from the No Shoes No Shirt No Problems album.
Grandpa Told Me So- As a big time grandpa's girl when I was younger, this song really hits home for me. Everyone has that grandpa who was their biggest role model and idol. This song gives all those grandpa's the recognition they deserve. Never fails, I always tear up when I hear this song. It takes me back to spending time with my Papa who I lost to cancer when I was 12 years old. You can find this gem on the All I Need To Know album.
I will admit there are some pretty great Kenny Chesney songs that do make the radio that I like just as much as the ones listed above. I will also admit there are hidden gems on every album that I did not mention. These are just some of my favorites that deserve a little more credit than the radio gave them.
